Spring Time Dining

Hi, my name is Kathy Kevenaar and I am one of the dining managers. I am excited that Spring is finally here! I want to give a friendly reminder to everyone on the importance of staying hydrated especially during the upcoming warm months. Staying hydrated is essential for all stages of life, but even more important as we get older.

Our bodies are made of  60% water, but as we age, our sense of being thirty or hungry may diminish. Some medications and other health conditions may also affect our ability to retain fluids. Our bodies need about 64oz of fluids each day, maybe even a little more if really hot and humid out or after exercising.

Here are some suggestions on how to get more fluids in your daily routine,especially if you are someone who does not really like to drink plain water. You can add some juice to your water or even fresh fruit. Limit your consumption of alcohol and drinks high in caffeine. Popsicle, milkshakes, smoothies, and ice cream are always an easy way to increase your fluid intake and also delicious. We should consider including foods that naturally have a higher water content. Such as cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon, grapes, blueberries, oranges, and bell peppers.

So, let's enjoy the warm sunny days and drink to good health with a refreshing glass of lemonade or homemade iced tea!
